Name: Yun Li

Age: 20

Nationality: Fire Nation

Skills:
- Singing: A natural talent that has been since trained and worked by a voice coach. She is a soprano but can sing a rather full range. She is always working to keep her voice in prime condition.

- Dancing: Though it took a lot of time and training, she is now very light on her feet. She has to constantly practice new steps when they are taught to her. After a few years of such practice sometimes dance steps work their ways into other aspects of her life, such as fighting if she ever is forced to.

- Gymnastics: Once again a skill she has has to learn. She can now do flips, has great balance and can preform general tricks. These are really just to enhance her showmanship.

Personality: Yun Li is determined young woman. She may seem stubborn but she is just driven to stick to her morals and goals. In general she is friendly and wearing a smile, but sometimes it's all just for show. As much as she enjoys her job, it does get to her and often times when she is out of public eye a more cynical attitude surfaces. However she is always gracious to her fans and wants them to only see her positive side.

She has a pretty good sense of humor and gets along best with people who are more lax than serious. Mainly this is due to the fact that she doesn't get much time to just relax and take it easy. So she finds that surrounding herself with people who are easy going is the next best thing. Being around those who seem stressed or tense seems to cause her to be agitated and she can't put up for it long. Stress is something that can cause her to snap and become a bit grouchy and short with others.

When upset Yun Li is not afraid to show it, unless it's in front her fans, in which case she bites her tongue until she is out of sight. But in all other cases she has no qualms about voicing her frustrations. Don't put it past her to take her anger out on objects, such as a wall or something near by she can strike with a flaming punch. A lot of it comes from pent up stress and now and then it just erupts. Also, it's rather hard to get on her good side once someone as pushed her too far.

Likes: Tea, Music of all types, Good jokes, Singing, Preforming, Thunder storms, Free time, Spiced chocolate, Being free to create

Dislikes: Discord noise, Tense situations, Deep water, Censorship, Overly busy schedules, Creepy fanboys/girls, Food with strong smells, Being considered Elite, Media gossip

History: Yun Li was born into a rather normal family in a small Fire Nation town. Her parents own a res truant and they make average income. She has a brother who is 5 years older than her and she looks up to him with the highest regard. He has a weak constitution though and constantly needed medical care. So most of the families earnings went to taking care of him. Yun Li didn't really mind though, as she rather have her brother well than material possessions.

Growing up she always felt like even though she was younger she needed to defend her brother. And as she began to harness her Firebending, she wasn't above shaking a fist of flames at other kids who teased him for his condition. But he would always remain calm and call her off. Bullies weren't worth it and he managed to instill that in her. It was one of the main reasons she admired him so. Even though he was weak and sickly he never seemed to get upset. He could hardly muster enough strength to light a small flame on the tip of his finger, yet was proud as if it was great accomplishment. She learned that strength wasn't from physical power but will power and her brother seemed to just overflow with it.

Yun Li didn't really socialize much because she always wanted to be at her brother's side. He would encourage her to play with others, and she would, but if she noticed him seeming ill, she'd dropped what she was doing and return to him. Once she was old enough she started waiting tables for her parents which gave her reason to be around her brother more as he worked the counter because he could sit while doing so. She always had her eye on him, always worried that he would have one of his episodes and collapse.

When she was 18, things really went downhill. After one night of a long coughing fit her brother was admitted to the small local hospital. The family was hard pressed paying the bills but he was took weak not to be under continual care. But being a small town the medical technology wasn't as great as it could have been, so he never seemed to improve. Yun Li wanted to find some way to help fund her brother's care and maybe even get a specialist to come from the closet city. That would cost a lot and she had no idea how to make such means.

While on a walk one day she spotted a sign for a talent contest. It was being hosted in the next town over and the prize money was a rather large sum. Her brother always enjoyed listening to her sing and without much hesitation she decided to sign up and hope for the best. Even if she didn't win overall just participating would make some money that could be used for his care. In fact she didn't even set her hopes on getting past the first round, only wanting to make some quick earnings.

Needless to say she was surprised to find herself in the top two. Her competition was a typical pretty face that was an easy sell for celebrity status. The other young woman was a decent singer but Yun Li felt she had the nicer sound overall. It was just her small town looks that would hinder her. She thought about just quitting, having already made a good amount of money, but she couldn't bring herself to quit. Her brother, no matter how sick he was, never gave up and so since she'd made it that far she was going to see it to the end. But she needed something to make her stand out. And as she got up on stage for her final performance, something came to mind. She put her Firebending into her show, making her own pyrotechnic effects. And that seemed to really draw the attention of the judges.

She won. It was a shock to her, even more so being offered a potential contract. However they wanted her to move to Republic City to further her training and start a career. Yun Li didn't want to leave her family behind and initially declined, explaining how she couldn't go. But the producers were determined and saw a lot of selling potential so they offered her a deal. She could put her earning from her contract to her brother's care and they would get him admitted to Republic City's hospital to continue his care. How could she refuse? The city would have much more advanced treatment and she would be able to fund most of it. It would be less of a burden for her parents. She didn't even think about not making it and being a flop because the benefits were too tempting.

So she was off to the city and thrown right into voice lesson, dancing classes and given a starlet makeover. Her managers helped her come up with a few songs that they could record and quickly get on the radio. It was all about building an image and getting her name out there. And because she was so busy she requested updates on her brother as she wasn't able to visit him often. She was worn out, constantly on the move as they built her fame, but he was doing so well under the new care that it kept her going.

It was about 6 months after she'd been brought to the city that she had her first stage show. A couple of her songs had become somewhat popular over the radio so there was a good sized crowd. It really felt like a make it or break it moment. Determined to keep going for her brother's sake, Yun Li put everything she had into that show, pulled out every trick she knew and sang as if it were last time she'd be able to use her voice. It must have gone well, as even now she says the night was a blur, but from that moment on, Yun Li was a star.

Now a local celebrity, Yun Li goes on tours around the Firenation and the Earth Kingdom. When she is at home in Republic City she gives frequent concerts much to the adoration of her fans. It's hard work, but she does it all for the sake of her family.

RP sample: Tick tick tick, the metronome kept the pace of the new steps she was suppose to be learning. However Yun Li wasn't practicing. She had taken a moment to just sit down and close her eyes. But much to her annoyance she couldn't get the metronome turned off, so she was just trying to ignore the constant click.

She had a show that night, so as she worked back stage the rest of the auditorium was being set up. These were the days that were the most hectic. And soon she would be stuck in makeup chair getting her hair done and having her face made over. It was just part of the life of a singing sensation. And though she'd been doing it for a couple years now, it never seemed to be something she could fully get use to.

“No, no no,” the voice of her producer rang out. “No sitting. We have work to do!”

Sighing she opened her eyes, stretched and stood. “Right, right. I was just taking a break.” The man was always on edge on show days. She swore she could see his veins pulsing in his forehead with stress. “Has my letter come yet?”

“Hmmm? The man glanced up from his clipboard. “Oh from your brother. No darling not yet. I promise as soon as we get your weekly update you'll get it. Now chop chop! Step behind step turn to the right and pose!”

With a roll of her eyes she shook her head and went back into the routine. “And pose...” she copied the man but put a cheesy smile on her face.

Additional Info:
-Once a week she schedules a visit with her brother at the hospital

-Yun Li doesn't know how to swim.

-She gets embarrassed hearing the sound of her own voice so she turns off the radio if her music comes on.

-Her stage makeup is always complicated so she has people do it for her. In fact she hardly knows how to do makeup so when she's not preforming she doesn't wear it.

-Almost everything she wears in public is picked for her because she isn't the most fashionable and her publicists don't want her to get caught wearing something embarrassing.
